Anointing of the Sick

‘Are any among you sick? They should call for the elders of the church and have them pray over them, anointing them with oil in the name of the Lord.’ (James 5:14)

‘By the sacred anointing of the sick and the prayer of the priests the whole Church commends those who are ill to the suffering and glorified Lord, that He may raise them up and save them. And indeed she exhorts them to contribute to the good of the people of God by freely uniting themselves to the Passion and death of Christ.’ (Lumen Gentium 11)

You are welcome and encouraged to receive the sacrament any time you are to undergo surgery under general anesthetic, or any time you have a serious injury or illness. Those who are elderly may request the sacrament, and you may receive this sacrament more than once. In fact, all Catholics of any age are encouraged to ask for this sacrament any time a new condition or surgery arises. Please contact the parish office to speak with a priest about receiving this sacrament.
